Pizhichil or sarvangadhara is a procedure in which warm medicated oil is continuously poured on body and gentle massage is given simultaneously. The word Pizhichil means squeezing. Here, linen dipped in warm oil is squeezed from above to pour the oil on the body of the patient lying on the wooden plank.
This treatment provides the benefits of both oleation and fomentation. Hence it is found effective in the management of inflammatory as well as degenerative joint disorders in general. The therapy also helps relieve stiffness and spasms. The treatment also helps improve neuromuscular strength.
