“Sirodhara” is a mode of ayurvedic treatment administered in the management of neuro-psychiatric disorders mainly. The effectiveness of this therapy ranges from conditions like headache, stress, anxiety, and insomnia to even chronic neurodegenerative disorders like dementia, and Parkinson’s disease to name a few.
The patient is advised to lie supine on a wooden plank (a cot with specifications in shape and measurements) with the neck and head comfortably placed. Prescribed medicated oil/ medicated decoction is gently poured on the forehead in a pendulum manner from a fixed height through a vessel with a cotton wick hanging down from within its center. The duration of this procedure is about forty-five minutes to one hour.
